At Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest, we believe that sexual and reproductive health education is a human right – one that must be accessible, affirming, and responsive to the needs of every learner. As we celebrate Disability Pride Month in July, we’re highlighting the work happening across our Community Engagement and Education department to ensure that people with varying abilities receive comprehensive, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate sex education.

Our Sex Ed To-Go (SETG) platform includes two specialized courses created by a Disability Justice advocate, each designed to support educators in teaching students with disabilities. Teaching Students with Disabilities Part 1 goes over the basics of ableism and explores strategies for making sex education more accessible. Through this course, educators learn how to identify barriers, adapt content, and create learning environments where students of all abilities can thrive. Teaching Students with Disabilities Part 2 is a continuation of the first course and further equips educators with practical tools to deliver inclusive, empowering lessons that honor each student’s autonomy and dignity.

These courses reflect our belief that inclusive sex education is essential to ensuring that all young people have the knowledge and skills to make informed decisions about their bodies and relationships.

People with differing abilities often face disproportionate barriers to sexual and reproductive health information. These barriers can lead to increased vulnerability, misinformation, and reduced access to care. At PPPSW, we strive to ensure that students with disabilities receive the same comprehensive, medically accurate information as their peers, delivered in ways that honor their strengths and support their needs.
