Expanding Access, Supporting Patients

May 1, 2026

At Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest (PPPSW), we’re celebrating the meaningful ways our teams continue to expand access to care, strengthen education, and remove barriers to health care across San Diego, Riverside, and Imperial counties. Over the past year, we’ve launched new services and initiatives that reflect our commitment to meeting patients where they are, and ensuring they feel supported every step of the way.

This year, PPPSW has expanded several key services including:

Advancing our Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) awareness and prevention campaigns: Last year, PPPSW launched an STI testing initiative that revealed that infections like Chlamydia and Syphilis may be under-diagnosed in our communities. Today, thanks to PPPSW’s forward thinking, hundreds of people who otherwise might have gone undiagnosed are now receiving the care and treatment they need.

Celebrating a Sex Ed To-Go Milestone: This year, PPPSW celebrated the 5-year anniversary of launching Sex Ed To-Go. In those 5 years, we have gained approximately 25,000 unique users who have taken over 71,000 online courses! We have also created 48 courses that focus on state and national mandates for sex ed, and added more courses around navigating emotions, grief, and breakups.

Expanding access to PrEP, PEP, and gender-affirming care: In the face of increasing attacks on LGBTQ+ communities, Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest remains committed to supporting LGBTQ+ patients, including by increasing access to PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis, and PEP (Post-Exposure Prophylaxis)—medications which significantly reduce the risk of contracting HIV—as well as gender-affirming hormone therapy. Through these expanded services, we’re working to ensure that more patients can access the respectful, supportive, and affirming health care they need and deserve.

Launching ultrasound dating services: Earlier this year, PPPSW began offering ultrasound dating services at select health centers. Early pregnancy confirmation and timely prenatal support are critical, especially in the face of unprecedented attacks on reproductive health care. In areas where pregnant people have limited or delayed access to medical attention, this single service can dramatically reduce preventable complications by anchoring care decisions to reliable information. We are proud to expand our services and support patients with access to timely and accurate information as well as prenatal care referrals for those that need them.

Moving to a larger Moreno Valley health center: This April, we moved to a larger state-of-the-art health center in Moreno Valley. The center features more exam rooms, an in-house lab, and allows us to serve even more patients and increase access to care in the region.

Supporting immigrant patients: At Planned Parenthood, we strongly believe that all people deserve access to compassionate health care in spaces where they feel respected and supported. For many people – especially immigrants and mixed‑status families – the recent increased attacks on immigrant communities can make seeking health care feel stressful or daunting. Our doors are open to everyone, regardless of immigration status, and we’re ready to provide you with the care you need and deserve.

Through our services and support, we remain staunchly committed to our communities, unequivocally leading with the belief that all people should be able to make their own decisions about their health, lives, and futures.
