Honoring AAPI Voices in Reproductive Health
Celebrating AAPI Heritage Month at Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest
Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month is observed in May. It is an opportunity to recognize the rich cultures, histories, and contributions of AAPI communities in the United States. At Planned Parenthood Pacific Southwest (PPPSW), it’s also a time to honor the essential role AAPI individuals have played—and continue to play—in advancing health equity and reproductive freedom.
AAPI Communities and Reproductive Health Care Access
Reproductive health is deeply personal, and often shaped by cultural, linguistic, and historical experiences. At Planned Parenthood, we recognize that the way that we arrive at and seek care is personal – that’s why we’re committed to creating welcoming, affirming spaces for patients and team members of all backgrounds—including the many AAPI nurses, clinicians, and staff who help power our mission every day. Representing over 50 ethnic groups and speaking more than 100 languages and dialects, AAPI communities are vast and diverse. Yet, their voices have too often been overlooked in national conversations around health and reproductive rights.
To our AAPI nurses and clinicians: thank you for your compassion and leadership. We see you. We honor you. And we are committed to ensuring your voices help shape the future of reproductive care.
If you’re inspired to make a difference in reproductive health, explore career opportunities with us at Planned Parenthood Pacific Southwest Careers. Your voice and vision belong here.
