Moving Our Communities Forward

August 15, 2018

Being a part of Planned Parenthood is being a part of the communities we serve. Employees, donors, and volunteers are driven by our mission: to ensure broad public access to sexual and reproductive health care through direct service, education, and advocacy.

The passion our supporters have for Planned Parenthood includes all three parts of this mission, extending beyond direct health care services to educating and advocating in all of the communities we serve.

In tough times like these, we strengthen our resolve to make sure everyone has access to our services, regardless of a person’s status, race, income, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, national origin, address, or gender(s).

Community Education & Engagement

We believe an educated community is an empowered community. Planned Parenthood brings sex education into the classroom, answers tough questions from scared teenagers, and provides science and facts in the face of disbelief.

We are a resource to our community members — our clinicians take pride in delivering education in our health centers — while our volunteers deliver important education materials at health fairs and community events every week.

When you’re informed, you can be prepared. We believe that helping people feel more prepared to make decisions for themselves is an important part of what we do.

There really is no other job like this…at a time like this. We need passionate employees, supporters, and volunteers, now more than ever!

One passionate volunteer has been supporting Planned Parenthood for the last twenty years. Chuck Johnson has volunteered for more than 8,500 hours with Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest over the last two decades.

“Working at Planned Parenthood and doing my morning walks is what keeps me young. I’m an 85-year-old retired physicist and long term resident of San Diego, CA. When the Republican Party abandoned the equal rights amendment in the ’70s, I was galvanized into action because the party platform moved in a direction that I didn’t agree with. I have a strong belief in civil and individual rights. As Martin Luther King, Jr. said, ‘Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.’ I believe Planned Parenthood fights for the rights of the individual by providing access to reproductive health care.”

Tough times and adversity have always galvanized Planned Parenthood supporters, employees, and volunteers to do more to support the communities we serve.
